Short Life Summary

Fredrick (Fred) Maclennan was the youngest of the four children of Charles Ferrier Maclennan and Mary (Findlayson) Maclennan. His siblings were Charles, Donald and Mabel.

He left Fortrose Academy to take up an apprenticeship as a carpenter with the Dingwall based building firm, Logans, moving into lodgings at the Temperance Café in Dingwall where he met Garnet Macrae, a student nurse. Fred was called up for his national service with the Seaforth Highlanders in early 1957. After training at Fort George, he was posted to Munster in Germany for two years, returning in 1959. On 3^rd February 1960 the couple had their only daughter Denise.  

In 1969 Fred left manual work to become a Clerk of Works with Ross-shire County Council and studied for his Institute of Clerk of Works qualification.  With this new qualification he secured a post as a Building Engineer with the Hydro Board in Dingwall where he remained until 1995 when on his post becoming redundant he  chose to retire.

Fred passed away in the Ross Memorial Hospital in Dingwall where he was cared for by staff following brain surgery. He was survived by his wife and daughter.[191]
