Brief Profile
Penelope Margaret Westmacott was born in Shipston-on-Stour on 20th February 1922, the younger daughter of Thomas Horatio Westmacott and Laura Evelyn Winnington-Ingram.
Penelope was a much-loved Highland primary school teacher for most of her working life, as well as a devoted mother to her children Anthony, Stephanie and Verity. Her challenging marriage to Henry Ruscombe-Poole ended in 1968 when she loaded Verity, her Dalmatian dog and the family portraits into the back of her Austin A40 and left Poole in Dorset for ever to join family in her beloved Highlands and begin a far happier life. A true community spirit, Penny (to friends)/Numpy (to family) was the personification of kindness and goodness. She loved gardening, the natural environment and creative pursuits such as writing and embroidery, passing her enthusiasm for a productive life on to her daughters and grand-daughters. She died gently at home on October 5th 2005, when it felt right that her life should be gathered in with the rich Black Isle autumn harvest.
